Astronomers detected evidence of extragalactic structure hidden behind the core of the Milky Way when looking from Earth. The region is known as a Zone of Avoidance and it’s largely unexplored due to dust and stars in our own galactic center. The structure consists of 5 galaxies analyzed in new scientific study and probably holds much more.
In the Zone of Avoidance also lurks one of the great mysteries of today’s astronomy - the Great Attractor. It is a place where most of the galaxies in our neighborhood seem to be flowing. The newly identified galactic cluster is not the Great Attractor itself, but it could be a part of it.
