Repeating nova RS Ophiuchi generated gamma radiation for a month after its latest explosion

Astronomers detected gamma radiation coming from the binary system RS Ophiuchi for a month after the thermonuclear explosion. This star system contains a small white dwarf and a red giant. According to a new study the radiation was emitted from winds of the secondary red giant star accelerated by the nova explosion.
