Space telescope eRosita observes its first stellar destructions by black holes

German telescope eRosita on board german-russian observatory Spektr-RG detected its first tidal disruption events (TDEs). They occur when star gets too close to a black hole, and gets destroyed by its intense gravity. The material from the star then goes to an accretion disc which generates intense radiation, that was detected by eRosite telescope.

eRosita operates in orbit for 2 years and has already detected multiple transient events. 13 of those were confirmed by other observatories as TDEs.
